Immediately after signing the project director Shankar went to Vijay and confirmed him for the Aamir Khan's role. Then Madhavan was confirmed for the same role he played in Hindi version. But there is still news saying Madhavan is not interested to do the role again. Whether he will be able to say no to a Shankar film is a question. For the third main lead Silambarasan aka STR is confirmed. Initially Jeeva was pushed to do this role but Shaknar has opted for STR.

In Telugu, as per news available till now, Mahesh Babu will replace Vijay and Madhavan and STR are being retained for the Telugu also. In Ajith 50th film lot of confusion is there, Now the latest update in the movie Lakshmi Rai has reportedly told that she is a part of the Ajith-starrer Mangatha, which is to be directed by Venkat Prabhu. It is already reported that Telugu star Nagarjuna and Neetu Chandra will play important roles in this film. However, it is still not certain with whom Lakshmi Rai would be paired.

The actress has returned from a trip to the US recently and is busy with the Malayalam film Christian Brothers, which has Mohan Lal as the hero, and the Lawrence-directed Kanchana.

Lingusamy and producer Dayanidhi Azhagiri of Cloud Nine Movies are reportedly upset with Silambarasan. Apparently, the two are irked over the fact that the actor had opted to star in Vaanam and had announced that it would move simultaneously with the Lingusamy project. Lingusamy and Dayanidhi, sources say, are considering replacing Silambarasan for the main role, as they want the actor’s entire concentration on their film.
In the meantime, Silambarasan is camping in Mumbai and holding discussions with percussionist Siva Mani and music director Dharan for Poda Podi. The actor is probably concentrating on Vaanam and Poda Podi.

With Thillalangadi all ready for release this weekend, Jayam Raja is gearing up for his next project with Vijay. Though "Velayudham" was introduced to the public as Jayam Raja's first non-remake movie, the film's promos and stills have a resemblance to the Nagarjuna and Soundarya starrer "Azaad" in Telugu.

When questioned, Jayam Raja assured that Velayudham is not a remake of any movie of the past. He also informed that Velayudham, unlike Vijay's earlier movies, will not have any punch dialogues.

Yuvanshankar Raja will score the music while Sakthi Saravanan is expected to handle the camera. If all goes well, the project will go on floors in the first week of August. MGR and Jayalalitha had starred in this film.

Sathya Movies had sent a letter to the Producers’ Council stating that it had not parted with the title of Kaavalkaran and hence the name should not be used for the Vijay-starrer. Following this, the title has been changed to Kaaval Kaadhal.
