But soon as he signed Venkat Prabhu for ‘Mankatha’, the actor seems to have had an assumption that ‘Venkat Prabhu team’ would be elvish on the shooting sets and may slightly lack technical brilliance.

But after working with him for the past couple of months, Ajith has now come to know that it was a wrong presumption about Venkat. The star says that Venkat is a meticulous director who looks deep into the technical aspects of filmmaking.

This is probably the reason for the shooting coming to a standstill. Vimal has two consecutive smash hits – Pasanga and Kalavani – to his credit and is presently acting in Ethan. This young and upcoming actor, who has been camping in Kumbakonam for the past one month to participate in the shooting of Ethan, decided to marry his childhood sweetheart Priyadarshini in Swamimalai and did so secretly. According to Vimal, Priyadarshini is a medical student, pursuing her course in a private college in Chennai.

Though they both are related and have known each other since childhood, the bride’s parents strongly opposed the marriage. This forced Vimal and Priyadarshini to wed secretly. The actor said that the parents have been informed and the wedding reception will be held in Chennai soon after the issues between both the families are sorted out.

This point on a flight to second world… Well don’t assume this to be a political drama involving ‘Second World territories’. In step with Dhanush, the film titled ‘Erandam Ulagam’ may be pure poignant love story on a special note. The much-expected ‘Vaanam’, a multistarrer which has STR, Bharath, Prakash Raj, Anushka, Sneha Ullal, Vega and Sonia Agarwal in lead roles, would hit the screens during the second week of February.

Produced by ‘VTV’ Ganesh, this Tamil remake of Telugu hit ‘Vedam’ is directed by Krish, who wielded the megaphone for the original too. Music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja, STR’s lucky mascot.

Known as a one-man industry, T. Rajendar with his trademark beard and straight hair, is getting ready with his next project Oru Thalai Kadhal. Beside directing the film, TR will also play the lead role. Oru Thalai Kadhal is a romantic musical entertainer which narrated the story of a village-based singer. The film is aimed at today's youth. Billa 2 has been announced and once again Ajith will get to play the title role. There are a lot of rumors going on about the storyline which is raising the expectation levels. The latest we hear on Billa 2 is that director Vishnuvardhan is planning something that will look like a prequel to the earlier version.

Vishal was severely injured at the Avan Ivan shooting spot and had to be admitted in a private hospital for treatment. He was actively involved in a fight sequence for the film where he was required to jump upon another actor RK. Unfortunately, RK moved just when Vishal was to have landed on him and he fell flat on the floor.

The actor was lying on the floor for quite sometime before the team realized that he was seriously injured and rushed him to hospital. The doctors treating him have said that he is out of danger but have advised rest. Vishal is expected to get back to the Avan Ivan sets soon to complete his portions.

Not many actresses would readily accept that they are in love. But pretty Anushka is not so. Recently, she has confessed that she is in a relationship and would marry her boyfriend in two years.

In a television interview, the actress has reportedly said she is going steady with the man of her choice. She however said she would not reveal his name at this point of time. “You have to wait for that.”

“If I tell his name now, it would raise many eyebrows. But I can say he is totally in love with me,” the ‘Singam’ actress said, adding: ‘We are planning to marry in the next couple of years.”

The trailer and website of ‘Siruthai’, Karthi’s first full-fledged mass masala film, was launched at a grand function in Chennai on Sunday.

Lingusamy, who gave the memorable ‘Paiyaa’ with Karthi, launched the website, while Gautham Vasudev Menon, a good friend of the actor’s brother Suriya, launched the trailer, all in the presence of Suriya.

A host of celebrities, including Sivakumar, ‘Jayam’ Ravi, Tamannah, Vidyasagar, R Parthiban, S P Muthuraman, A Jagannathan, Vijay, Prabu Solomon, Rajeevan, director Siva and producer Gnanavel Raja attended the event.

In his address, Suriya said that ‘Siruthai’ will be more powerful than ‘Kaakha Kaakha’ and ‘Singam’, the two films in which he had played the role of a police officer. “Karthi has worked hard for the film,” he said.

Karthi said he tried hard not to look like his brother in ‘Singam’. “Director Siva reworked the script for more than a year and Vidyasagar has given excellent songs. I am waiting the film’s release,” he said.

The trailer and two songs of ‘Siruthai’, which is a remake of Tollywood hit ‘Vikramarkudu’ starring Ravi Teja and Anushka in lead roles, were screened for the audience.

We still don’t know what Vijay feels but Dhanush is looking forward to the healthy clash in January. In his social networking site Dhanush has said “It’s official I am honoured for I would be competing with Vijay Sir for the fourth time! I am thrilled, praying the best for both films.”

‘Kavalan’ seems to have braved all rough weathers and will hit the theatres on Pongal day. Vettrimaran directed ‘Aadukalam’ is his second film after the well received ‘Pollathavan’. Both have enough reasons to be patronized.

The last three instances when the two star’s’ films clashed are Athu Oru Kana Kaalam and Sivakasi in 2005. Pollathavan and ATM in 2007, Padikathavan and Villu in 2009.

Even we pray for both the films do well.

Karthi’s ‘Siruthai’ has been completed within shorter span of shooting schedule. The producers are planning to release the film on January 14 for the occasion of Pongal. The musical score by Vidhyasagar to the lyrics of Vivega, Na. Muthukumar and Arivumathi will be on airs from December 19.

Karthi’s ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’, ‘Paiyya’ and ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ turning to be big blockbusters, this film has raised everyone expectations.

Vidhyasagar is already making high waves with the grand success of Vijay’s ‘Kaavalan’ album and now it should be a double treat for his fans.

After Arya made some negative comments against the Tamil Film Industry, it is the turn of Priyamani to make such comments.

She claimed in an interview today that these days not even s single good Tamil film is seeing the light of the day!

“Most of the films that are being released these days are very silly and even though couple of producers came to book me, I rejected them as I did not like the stories” she said.

These comments have angered the Tamil Film Industry and they are planning to take some action against her.

But there is a small hitch here. While she has films in Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, she has no single film in Kollywood and even if they ban her, she would not be affected!

முன்னதாக சமீபத்தில் நடந்த திருமண நிகழ்ச்சியில் நடிகர் விஜய் ஜெயலலிதாவை சந்தித்துப் பேசியிருந்தார். சில நிமிடங்களே நீடித்த அந்தப் பேச்சுக்குப் பின்னர் மதுரையில் நடந்த அதிமுக கண்டனக் கூட்டத்தில் பேசிய ஜெயலலிதா. தமிழகத்தில் ஒரு முன்னணி நடிகரின் படங்கள் தொடர்ந்து வெற்றி பெற்று வந்தன. அவர் அரசியலுக்கு வருவது பற்றி யோசிக்கிறேன் என்று மட்டும்தான் சொன்னார். அதற்கே அந்த நடிகரின் 4, 5 படங்களை தோல்வி படங்களாக ஆக்கி விட்டனர். இதைப் பற்றி அந்த நடிகர் என்னிடம் முறையிட்டார் என்று கூறியிருந்தார். அது விஜய்தான் என்பதை அனைவரும் புரிந்து கொண்டனர். அதேபோல அஜீத்துக்கும் பிரச்சினை வந்தபோது அவரும் ஜெயலலிதாவை சந்தித்துப் பேசினார்.

Local hero Vijay is set to strengthen Jayalalithaa ahead of next year’s Assembly elections by expressing support for her party after the Karunanidhi family allegedly trie...d to trip his film career.

Vijay’s father, producer-director S.A. Chandrasekar, called on Jayalalithaa at her home yesterday and told her how the DMK’s first family was harassing his son.

That’s where Rancho comes in. “Chandrasekar told Jayalalithaa how Vijay was unceremoniously axed from the Tamil remake of 3 Idiots, and how the release of another Vijay film (Kaavalan) is being stalled to benefit a Kamal Haasan-starrer produced by Udayanidhi Stalin,” a source close to Vijay said. Udayanidhi is the son of Stalin, whose father is chief minister and DMK patriarch M. Karunanidhi.

“Vijay, who was to play Aamir Khan’s Rancho, underwent a new look for the 3 Idiots remake but director Shankar, who made Robot recently for Kalanidhi Maran, dropped him without citing any reason. Although Shankar would not admit it, we know he acted under pressure from very powerful people,” a source involved in the film project said.

Vijay, 36, is expected to openly endorse the AIADMK after he returns from the US where he is promoting his latest film Kaavalan (Protector). In return, his well-networked fan clubs can help Jayalalithaa during the poll campaign.

For Jayalalithaa, the development represents a huge psychological boost after having rattled the DMK over the spectrum scandal that scalped A. Raja.

Vijay has another grouse. Theatre owners in the state have refused to screen Kaavalan, which was set for a Christmas release, till Vijay compensates them for the losses they suffered over his last movie Sura (Shark), released six months ago. The Tamil Nadu Film Exhibitors Association wants Vijay to pay Rs 3 crore — a third of its alleged losses of Rs 9 crore.

Industry sources, however, say the real reason for the sudden hurdle placed by the exhibitors is the pressure exerted by the three production houses owned by the Karunanidhi family.

“They do not want Vijay’s movie to come in the way of the collections of the four films being released by members of the ‘K family’ in December and January,” a film financier said. “The theatre owners have been asked to delay Vijay’s film for as long as possible. Even if Vijay pays up, it is doubtful that the movie would be released on time.”

Kaavalan is not being produced or released by any of the three Karunanidhi family banners: Sun Pictures of Kalanidhi Maran, Red Giant Movies of Udayanidhi Stalin or Cloud Nine Movies of Dayanidhi Alagiri.

These three production houses are releasing films starring Surya, Kamal Haasan and Dhanush (Rajnikant’s son-in-law) over the next two months. In the past two years, these three banners have cornered the largest chunk of the Tamil film business by booking top stars and blocking theatres, thus establishing a virtual hegemony.

Udayanidhi Stalin, who had produced a movie with Vijay two years ago, has denied he has anything to do with the actor’s current troubles.

“No wonder, producers are willing to pay up to Rs 12 crore per movie to feature him. Since Bodyguard, the Malayalam original, was a super-hit and the same director is making Kaavalan, there is every chance of this becoming a runaway hit, considering Vijay’s committed fan base. This has made the big three really nervous.”

Besides, Vijay’s recent moves to carve out a political space for himself have not gone down well with the ruling DMK. The actor had attempted to join the Congress in 2009 but dropped the plan after being arm-twisted by the DMK leadership.

Last week, Vijay met officials of his fan club and indicated he might support the AIADMK. With the DMK set against him, Vijay has concluded that only political patronage can help him.

“Since the state’s film industry is highly politicised, the protection offered by the AIADMK will embolden certain theatre owners to screen Kaavalan in spite of pressure from the ruling party,” said a theatre owner in Coimbatore.See More

The trailer of Ilayathalapathy Vijay's 51st film Kaavalan, Tamil remake of the Malayalam hit Bodyguard starring Dileep and Nayantara, was launched in Chennai yesterday. Vijay Narpani Vizha also distributed sacks of rice to poor families as part of the event. The music of Kaavalan will be launched on December 8, 2010. Kaavalan is directed by Siddique (of Friends fame), who also directed the original version. The film has a plot with plenty of comedy and action and brings Asin back to Kollywood after a gap.


The film also brings back the Vijay-Vidyasagar duo after Gilli and Villu. According to the music director, the album has a couple of melody-infused fast-paced songs which will be a treat to listen to. Kaavalan is produced by C. Ramesh Babu and film maker Sakthi Chidambaram has acquired its release rights.

The audio and trailer of Singam Puli will be launched today. Sun Pictures’ Hansraj Saxena will release the audio CD and it will be received by actors Arya and Jayam Ravi. The trailer of this film will be launched by Rama Narayanan and Abhirami Ramanathan.


Singam Puli is Jiiva’s first film in which he dons a dual role and Divya Spandana plays his heroine. The music for this film has been scored by Mani Sharma. Sai Ramani has directed this venture.

Suriya is in the news again, this time regarding his next project. We are not talking about 7aam Arivu for which he is currently shooting. Sources from the industry reveal that Selvaraghavan has narrated a script to Suriya and the actor is mightily impressed with it. Going by initial reactions, insiders feel that Selva might start working on the project with Suriya from next year. Kollywood buzz is that Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies has acquired the release rights of K.V. Anand's Ko. The film is progressing briskly in Chennai. Recently the crew went to some exotic locations in China for a song sequence and plans are on to shoot the remaining two songs in Norway. Ko's music will be launched soon.


S. Kumar and R. Jayaraman of RS Infotainment, who produced Gautham Menon's Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, are producing Ko, which is expected be a commercial entertainer on the lines of K.V. Anand's earlier venture Ayan. Anand has teamed up with the writer-duo Subha and Harris Jayaraj for Ko.
